Utilising the concept of tensioned fabric covered, galvanised steel frames delivered to the site in a completely pre-fabricated format, the buildings can be rapidly erected using cranes and man lifts on a variety of surfaces, even allowing for some degree of differential settlement due to their modular design. Column-free widths of up to 90 metres are available while the buildings are comprised of a series of identical truss ribs set at a pre-determined spacing so that the length of your building can be virtually unlimited. The tensioned membrane cover, which allows for transmission of diffused natural light, while blocking UV rays, is made from rip-stop polyethylene fabric of varying weights, even flame -retardant as required, with an expected life of around 20 years and is readily replaced either at that time or due to intervening accidental damage - even a fire event. In fact the fabric has a major advantage in a fire situation, as it shrinks away from the heat source rather than containing the combustion as would be the case with steel clad buildings, which often experience more difficult and dangerous fire fighting conditions as well as more significant damage. It is common for a fire damaged tensioned fabric covered building to require only replacement of the damaged areas of the cover to be brought back in to service, resulting in far less cost impact and beneficial insurance outcomes. the translucent cover provides a very agreeable working environment during daylight hours as well as producing a substantial reduction in lighting demands, a developing issue in the context of rapidly escalating power generation costs and climate change issues. In applications that call for a higher level of intruder security, masonary or cladding walls can be readily integrated into the design whilst still retaining the features and benefits offered by the translucent roof.
